Tests for:

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in the UK, accounting for almost half of all STI diagnoses in 2014 according to Public Health England figures. It is usually associated with people under 25, making age a risk factor, however it can be caught by anyone. It can be treated and will cause no problems if caught early. However, if left untreated it can have an effect on your health.

Chlamydia is an infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, which is usually spread through sexual contact. This is a bacterium which infects cells in the cervix, urethra, rectum and sometimes the eyes or throat.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection brought about by bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is the second most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection in the UK.

Gonorrhea is easily treated. In any case, if left untreated in women, gonorrhea can spread to other reproductive organs (the womb and the fallopian tubes), causing long-term pain, blocked tubes, infertility and ectopic pregnancy (this is when a pregnancy develops in the fallopian tube rather than in the womb). If untreated in men, gonorrhea can cause a painful infection in the testicles and prostate gland.

Mycoplasma genitalium

Mycoplasma genitalium is a bacterium that effects both men and women. It is passed through sexual contact. We offer the test for Mycoplasma genitalium in a number of our TESTD screens, this is to ensure that a number of different STIs are tested along with it.

Ureaplasma

Ureaplasma is a bacterium which is passed through sexual contact.

Gardnerella

Gardnerella is a bacteria which is passed through sexual contact. Women with Gardnerella will have a change in PH of their vagina with it being more alkaline than normal.

Hepres Simplex 1 & 2 (Urine and PCR lesion swab)

Genital herpes is brought about by the herpes simplex infection (HSV). There are two types, HSV 1 and 2. Both types can infect the genital and anal area (genital herpes), the mouth and nose and fingers and hand (whitlows).

Trichomonas

Trichomonas is a very small organism called a protozoan. It is very similar to a bacteria. It can infect the vagina and urethra in a woman and occasionally in men. It is passed through sexual contact.

Additional Information

Our private laboratory will send you a urine and viral swab kit to exclude common sexually transmitted infections that can present with a rash/spots in the genital region, including genital herpes (also known as Herpes Simplex Virus or HSV). The swab detects the presence of the herpes virus and the urine test detects whether or not it is in the active ‘shedding’ phase.

Ideally all spots/rashes should be shown to a doctor/nurse for a clinical opinion. However where this is not possible, this combination of tests can help in the diagnosis genital herpes.

A discreet Test kit is dispatched simply at your given address. The sample is forwarded to the laboratory using our self addressed envelope. Results are sent via a text message.

If you test positive for genital herpes, we will prescribe an appropriate anti-viral for next day delivery. So you can rest assured that we will help manage this condition for you.

Not all spots or rashes “down below” are sexually transmitted. If the skin condition persists after a negative 28 day test result, then you should make an appointment to see a doctor for a face to face consultation.

Our team of real life TESTD doctors is on hand across the country to advise and treat (where appropriate), once the results are known. This give you a complete medical pathway from ordering the right tests to receiving the correct treatment, so that you can “move on” from any worries you may have.
