If you simply want to exclude the possibility that you might have Hepatitis B then this is the right test for you. If you have any symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection, then we recommend our END THE WORRY screen in which we test for the most common 10 different infections, including Hepatitis B, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, HIV & more, so we can correctly identify the root cause. The Hepatitis B test only checks for Hepatitis B: if you have another infection then this will not be picked up by this test.
What is hepatitis B?
Hepatitis B is a contamination of the liver brought about by the hepatitis B infection. It is extremely infectious (100 times more infectious than HIV) and is easily transmitted through unprotected sex or by sharing needles to inject drugs.
A great many people who contract hepatitis B don’t have side effects. In the event that side effects do occur they can be seen one to six months subsequent to coming into contact with the infection. The disease can continue for a long time and quietly cause extreme liver damage, including cirrhosis, liver failure and liver cancer.
What are the symptoms of hepatitis B?
The majority of people with hepatitis B do not even know that they are infected and for those that are infected they may not see any symptoms of many years.
On occasion individuals infected with hepatitis B may have some symptoms after the initial infection. These could be a mild flu-like illness, feeling sick and vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, jaundice (yellow skin and whites of eyes, and dark urine) or itchy skin.
